In The Summertime: Part 1

Gah. I've been so swamped with work, I didn't even realize I haven't blogged in almost a month!

So, okay. SUMMER.

In my book, no summer is ever complete without a trip to the beach. Since our anniversary was squeezed between a weekend and Labor Day Tuesday, we decided to go out of town. Yay!

Malaysia is our go-to country for weekend trips since it's right beside Singapore. We chose between Redang Island,  Tioman Island, and Langkawi.

To get to Redang Island, one would have to brave the huge South China Sea waves in a 45-minute speedboat ride. Having experienced that on the way to Perhentian Island last year, I wasn't ready to try it again just yet. That left Tioman Island and Langkawi. And since Langkawi had an extra attraction - one of the world's steepest cable car rides - we opted to go there.

We decided to travel by bus and ferry. Bad choice. We boarded the bus at 7:00PM on a Friday night -  a little inconvenient because I had to rush from work to the bus depot. We arrived a quarter past seven at Kuala Kedah, took a 30-minute taxi ride to the jetty and missed the 8:30AM ferry trip. LOL. The next ferry was scheduled to leave at 10:30AM so we had to wait for two hours. Boo. Thank God for Bejeweled Blitz and Diner Dash. Haha.

We arrived at Langkawi around noontime. There were fastfood restaurants lined up outside the ferry terminal, so we decided to buy our lunch. Right in the middle of the food strip, we found the taxi counter. So we queued up, showed the lady our hotel address, and she found us a taxi. We boarded a minivan-type taxi along with four other people. Apparently, it was a shared taxi. It wasn't too bad since they were all dropped off some fifteen minutes later, leaving only me and the boyf in the taxi. The ride from the ferry terminal to our hotel lasted for about 45 minutes.

We stayed at Meritus Pelangi Resort and Spa, located at Pantai Cenang. Upon checking in, we were given welcome drinks and some wet face towels. The check in did not take look since we already reserved and paid for everything in advance. Their resort is huge, so buggies are available at your beck and call. The resort was lovely, we had a relaxing 3D/2N stay there.

The boyf's family arrived at Langkawi on our second night there. So after checking out of Meritus Pelangi, the boyf and I joined them at Mutiara Burau Bay for two more days of fun. The next two days were all about seafood, parasailing (which I was too scared to try LOL), monkeys, swimming, hilarious dancing, and bonding. :)

But the highlight of my trip would have to be the Panorama Langkawi Skycab. It's known to be one of the steepest cable car rides in the world. One look, and the butterflies in my stomach were in a frenzy. I was SO scared that I didn't even want to ride the cable car. Good thing they, err, forced me to. Haha.

If you cannot tell from the picture above, yes, I was extremely scared! It was super steep and really high up. I couldn't even take pictures because my hands were shaking. Hahaha! The boyf (and his brother) sure had a kick out of seeing me so terrified. LOL.

The view was lovely, though. I'd say it was worth all the hand-shaking, palm-sweating and screaming. LOL. First stop was the Middle Station where picture-taking ensued. See the cable behind us? Almost vertical. Ha.

After enjoying the view at the Middle Station, we rode the cable car up to the Top Station. It gave us a 360-degree view of Langkawi and a part of Southern Thailand. And we were amongst the clouds! The little child in me was thrilled at the thought of touching the clouds. Haha.

I truly enjoyed going from the sea to the mountain, bonding with the boyf and then with his family. It was such a lovely escape, truly a mix of relaxation and fun in the summertime! :)
