Kindle-ing: Books To E-books

After experiencing a series of misdeliveries (of books I ordered online), I decided to buy a Kindle. With the ebooks available online, I would never have to experience a misdelivery ever again. Ha!

I was torn between the Kindle Touch and Kindle Fire. With Kindle Fire, I could do so much more - read (duh), watch movies, play games, listen to music. And with the Touch, I could only read and listen to music.

It took me this long to switch to ebooks because I actually like reading from actual books. With real books, I don't have to worry about display and battery. Book paper does not glare, I don't have to tilt it when I'm reading under a bright light. And I don't have to charge my books. Haha. (I have to charge my phone, my laptop, my camera. I don't want to have to charge my books too. LOL.)

The electronic paper display and (their claimed) two-month battery life of the Kindle Touch completely won me over. I'd still get to read (as if) from a real book, and I don't have to worry about charging all that much.

Buying a Kindle in Singapore is kind of a hassle if you buy straight from Amazon. I learned from friends that I would have to set up a vPOST account, have my Kindle shipped to my US address (courtesy of vPOST), and then have it forwarded to Singapore. The entire process would take two weeks.

I did not want to wait (because I am impatient LOL), so I searched for resellers. I found one reseller in hardwarezone who was selling a brand new Kindle Touch at SGD160. If I factor in the conversion rate and shipping cost of buying from Amazon, I'd spend around SGD150. So SGD160 is a pretty reasonable price, I'd say. I decided to save myself the hassle and bought my Kindle Touch from the reseller. We agreed on a pick up point, met up on Friday night, and I got my Kindle Touch straight away. Yay! :)

The electronic paper is genius, it's perfect for readers like me who prefer reading from actual paper. There is no glare at all. I still have to try out the two-month battery life (without using the WiFi) Amazon boasted, though. It's only 6-inches small (diagonally), so it's easy to carry around. I've been reading from my Kindle Touch ever since, and I love it! :)
