Good Food, Great Friends
Growing up, I was always made to believe that birthdays are special. Every year, I would get gifts and the family always eats a delish meal to celebrate.
Aside from my Facebook wall being flooded with birthday greetings, this day felt pretty normal. As I rode the bus home from work, I couldn't help wishing I was celebrating the day with my family back in Cebu. The boyfriend did not invite me out, and I did not make any plans with my friends. Since our movie plan was set for Friday, I did not think I'd be doing anything special today. And with my teeth still hurting a little bit (yeah, the braces), I thought I'd be eating pancit canton for dinner on my birthday. Haha.
That was until I saw the telltale signs my friends dropped here and there. I told L I wanted to have my legs waxed and asked her to come with me, she told me to have them waxed tomorrow instead because she had to do her laundry. And then T called to ask if I was going somewhere after work. When I told her I didn't have any plans, she said she would call the others up and we'd all go out for dinner. Hmmm, fishy. The confirmation came when T called me again and asked where I was. When I told her I was really near and asked why, she asked me if she could have a pack of pancit canton because she had no money. She said she'd bring the pancit canton with her to the restaurant. Hahahaha. Really, T? :))
Sure enough, when I entered the house, they were all waiting for me.
"Surprise!"
Not surprised at all. Hahaha. Touched? Oh, yes.
My friends bought pizza, fried chicken, crispy pata, cake and ice cream. Good food, great company. I loved the chatting and the friendly banter, the laughter and the stories shared. It was so much fun.
So, yeah -- even if I was away, my birthday was pretty darn special. Thank God I have great friends who made sure of that.
Thank you so much, guys. This is one of the reasons why I love you. :)
